Dublin's O'Connell Street
Dublin City's main thoroughfare is O'Connell Street and is one of the widest in Europe. Situated in Dublin 1 (North side)
it is the heart of Dublin City Center providing a variety of shopping stores and a look back into the history of Dublin.
First named Sackville Street it was renamed O'Connell Street in 1924, after a nationalist leader by the name of Daniel O'Connell.
It was destroyed beforehand during the 1916 Rising and was also the centre piece to the start of the 1922 Civil War.
Shopping
Many of great shops are to be had in and around O'Connell Street.
Some shopping stores includes Clery's Department Store and popular Eason's bookstore.
You will also discover some amazing smaller shops with great sales on offer.
Located off O'Connell street is Henry Street, Abbey Street and Earl Street, all of which are busy with shoppers.

Being the heart of Dublin City O'Connell Street has seen its share of history such as the 1916 Rebellion or the start of the Irish Civil War
The main centre piece of the street is the General Post Office (GPO) which was totally destroyed in the 1916 Rising, including the rest of O'Connell Street.
Today the building still serves as a Post Office.
There is no ignoring the Dublin Spire, over a height of 120M and at a cost of over 4 Million its nearly impossible to ignore. Although everyone is split on opinions over the Dublin spire it is now one of our newest tourist attractions. Other statues or monuments that can be found on O'Connell street include: Father Theobald Mathew, Jim Larkin, Sir John Grey, William Smith O'Brien and the Parnell Monument.
